How does the adoption process work?

Take a look at our Available Dogs page or our Available Cats page, depending on which kind of pet you’re interested in! If you see an animal you are interested in, you may email: with which pets you’re interested in, call 979-966-0021 or come to our shelter to meet them! Once you find the pet you’re ready to adopt, you’ll fill out any necessary remaining paperwork. If required, post-adoption instructions will be given to you during your adoption consultation.

How much does it cost to adopt?

$75 for a dog or cat. Included in the adoption fee are one set of vaccinations, deworming, rabies vaccination & the animal spayed or neutered. Microchips are included in the adoption fee. Please click here for a full list of fees.

What happens if it doesn't work out with my pet? What do I do?

If for some reason you no longer want your adopted pet, you are required to return that animal to us. No exceptions. And there is no time limit.

If I return my adopted pet, can I get my adoption fee back?

Yes, within the first two weeks after adoption. After two weeks, you are contractually obligated to return the animal to our shelter with no refund of adoption fee.

What if I'm not sure if my adopted pet will get along with my other pets? Can I do a trial adoption?

Yes there is a trial period offered if you think that is best to determine if your potential new dog or cat will fit in with your family. We will help facilitate the introduction and will provide information and support to create a smooth transition.

What's included in the adoption fee?

This covers age appropriate vaccinations given at the shelter including bordatella,rabies, spay and neuter and microchip.
